October 23, Cambodia Political Settlement: Agreements Signed
A historic day 21 years ago that Peace Independence and Democracy were returned back to Cambodia, thanks to the United Nations. It was declared a national holiday until 2005 that it was replaced by January 7 the day the Vietnamese forces chased the Khmer Rouge out of power.
To honor the late King Norodom Sihanouk who passed away a week ago, the Hun Sen Government has reversed the decision by putting back October 23 as national holiday.
Many NGOs criticize the Government for not implementing the terms of the agreements in regard to human rights, national integrity, etc...
