This date - January 20 - is the most important in American politics. Rain or shine, or snowy, it is the day that, every four years, it will be the day for the legal ordely transfer of power between the old and new elected President of the United States. By laws each President can only serve 8 years in the maximum, if reelected. If not, after 4 year term, bye bye... A perfect democracy !! ... Too short ? -Think of the term of a US Representative is only 2 years !
They have to work very hard to get re-elected. It doesn't matter in whatever political party they belong.
The next inauguration day will be January 20, 2013. Democratic President Obama is facing an an uphill and tough battle for his re-election while working with a new Republican controlled House of Representatives. How much the Democratic Senate can help ?
