PHNOM PENH, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian and Vietnamese leaders on Tuesday vowed to further strengthen and expand bilateral ties and cooperation for mutual interests, a spokesman said.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and visiting Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, capital city of Cambodia.
"The two leaders pledge to boost the bilateral trade volume to 5 billion U.S. dollars by 2015," Eang Sophalleth, a spokesman for Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters after the meeting.
"They also agreed to further promote the tourism sector."
According to Sophalleth, the two leaders also expressed their satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation between the two neighbors in politics, economics, trade, and tourism.
Earlier in the day, the Vietnamese president met with Heng Samrin, president of the Cambodia's National Assembly.
"The National Assembly is satisfied with friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and will continue to help further promote the bilateral ties for mutual benefits," Heng Samrin said, suggesting that the two neighbors need to explore new possibilities to expand cooperation.
He also called on the Vietnamese president to encourage more Vietnamese investors to Cambodia so as to contribute to the development of Cambodian economy.
For his part, Sang promised to further boost cooperation between the two countries in politics, economics, trade, investment, tourism, education, and health.
He also proposed Cambodia to continue supporting Vietnamese investors doing businesses here.
The Vietnamese president arrived here Tuesday morning for a two- day visit at the invitation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.
